Great news
All three of our Trainee Therapists have now passed their exams and are now fully-fledged Orthodontic Therapists. Well done to Jan Cooke, Amanda Hagan and Renée Mello - we’re all very proud of you.
In attaining this certificate they can now carry out a lot of the orthodontist’s work and are registered as Orthodontic Therapists in the Dental Care Professionals’ Register.
Initially it took the General Dental Council quite a long time to get these courses off the ground and there were only a few approved examining organisations. Fortunately year on year, this is expanding.
Have you heard?
Vicki Cumberbirch who married Max Hain in 2008 now has a "little Hain". What great news! Vicki is now back from her maternity leave and (we think) enjoying being back at work.
And on a more serious note! David Plunkett from the Riverside team, alongside Stephen Chadwick has won an international award for clinical research. Steve is Consultant Orthodontist at the Countess of Chester Hospital and also does late night surgery at
Overleigh Orthodontics.
This award, for the best paper published in a scientific journal, is given by the European Orthodontic Federation, a body made up of orthodontic societies across Europe. The paper reported on a clinical trial, looking at a ‘one-step’ bonding method versus a ‘two-step’ method to bond braces to teeth. This research identified the method as quicker and easier than the traditional ‘two-step’ technique. Their paper has had an influence on clinical
practice and the added convenience to patients, orthodontists and nurses has led to the use of ‘one-step’ self etch primer becoming a standard procedure across Europe.
Congrats to them both.
